Technician cleaning a commercial ice machine

Short answer: There is no single blanket Florida interval for every ice machine. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and sanitizing instructions, prevent soil or mold from accumulating, and clean after possible contamination. Crystal Ice's standard scheduled PM is every 6 months; site conditions may require more frequent service.

    What the rules actually say

DBPR's current inspections page identifies adoption of the 2017 FDA Food Code effective November 1, 2019. Its older Ice Protection bulletin was issued in 2013 and cites the 2009 edition; distinguish that historical reference from current adoption.

The bulletin calls for approved potable water, cleaning and sanitizing per the manufacturer or as needed to prevent soil or mold, and after possible contamination. Do not use machine ice during a boil-water notice.

Its best practices include inspecting interiors for mold, mildew and slime, cleaning and sanitizing ice utensils at least every 24 hours, and changing filters per manufacturer instructions.

    What we do

Crystal Ice schedules standard preventive maintenance every 6 months. Follow your manufacturer's instructions and clean sooner if conditions warrant. High-volume bars, coastal kitchens and healthcare sites may need more frequent service, assessed individually; this is not a blanket legal interval or an included quarterly rental schedule.

A PM visit usually takes about 60–90 minutes, depending on equipment, and costs $295 or is included with rental. It covers deep sanitizing, scale removal, mechanical inspection, a filter check and service paperwork. Paperwork is not an inspection guarantee.

    Signs you need it sooner

Visible slime or mold, musty odor, cloudy ice or specks, and smaller cubes may indicate cleaning or service needs. Do not serve ice you suspect is contaminated; arrange prompt assessment.

Based in Clearwater, Crystal Ice has served Tampa Bay for more than 30 years, since 1992, across Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties. We come to your business; there is no storefront or walk-in service.
