Main Street, the Pinellas Trail and Edgewater Drive along the water: Dunedin’s dining strip is walkable and busy, and runs on cold drinks. Taprooms, pubs, cafés and waterfront spots all need a clean ice supply for the weekend crowd. Crystal Ice is based next door in Clearwater and has been taking care of ice machines for more than 30 years, since 1992.
Small kitchens, busy weekends
Many downtown storefronts have limited back-of-house space. On a free assessment, we measure the space, review peak demand and consider suitable undercounter or other configurations, including ventilation and walkway clearance. Planning for a Saturday crowd is not a promise of weekend technician availability.
Cleaning and inspection records
Mold and slime can build up in warm, damp machines, and inspectors may examine food-contact surfaces.
A PM visit includes deep sanitizing of water-contact surfaces, scale removal, a full mechanical inspection, a filter check and service paperwork you can show the health inspector. It costs $295/visit, or standard scheduled PM is included with rental. Paperwork documents maintenance; it does not guarantee an inspection result.
Standard scheduled PM is every 6 months. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions and clean sooner if conditions warrant. High-volume bars and coastal kitchens may need more frequent service, assessed individually; that is not a blanket legal interval or an included quarterly rental schedule.
DBPR’s historical Ice Protection bulletin advises approved potable water, cleaning and sanitizing per the manufacturer or as needed to prevent soil or mold, and after contamination. Do not use machine ice during a boil-water notice. The 2013 bulletin cites an older code edition; consult DBPR’s current inspections guidance for applicable requirements. Findings depend on conditions; no inspection outcome is guaranteed.
Rent or repair
Rental starts at $160/month and includes the machine, installation, scheduled PM cleanings and repair parts/labor. Two months are paid up front, then it is month-to-month with no long-term contract. No setup or installation fee; free pickup on cancellation.
For an owned machine, request a written repair quote before work. Repair work carries a 90-day warranty. Rental repair parts and labor are included.
